What is Reiki

What is Reiki

At its core, Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a gentle, non-invasive Japanese energy healing technique. The word comes from two Japanese as words: "Rei," meaning universal or higher intelligence, and "Ki," which means life force energy (similar to Qi or Prana).

Think of it as a dynamic reset button for your nervous system.

When we experience chronic stress, trauma, or physical illness, our body's natural energy flow becomes blocked or sluggish, keeping us stuck in a "fight-or-flight" state. A Reiki practitioner acts as a gentle conduit for universal life force energy, helping to dissolve those blocks, quiet the mind, and kickstart your body’s natural ability to heal itself.

THE BENEFITS OF REIKI

Because energy work addresses the root of our systemic stress, its benefits ripple out across your entire physical and emotional well-being. Reiki is frequently used to:

  • Deeply soothe and regulate an overworked nervous system

  • Release stored physical tension, aches, and chronic pain

  • Process unexpressed emotions, anxiety, and mental fatigue

  • Improve sleep quality and boost immune system response

  • Provide a deep sense of grounding, clarity, and inner peace

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR SESSION

If you have never experienced energy work before, it is completely normal to wonder what a session actually looks like! Here is exactly how we will spend our time together:

  1. The Intentional Check-In
We will begin with a brief, comfortable conversation. We will review your intake form, discuss any areas of physical discomfort or emotional heavy lifting you are experiencing, and establish your boundaries regarding light touch or hovering hands.

  2. The Session
You will remain fully clothed and lie comfortably on a cushioned massage table, supported by pillows and blankets. I will place my hands gently on, or slightly above, a series of energetic centers (chakras) across your head, torso, legs, and feet. All you have to do is close your eyes, breathe, and rest.

  3. The Integration
When the treatment is complete, I will gently bring your awareness back to the room. We will spend the last few minutes grounding your energy, and you will have space to share anything you experienced or felt during the session.

WHAT DOES REIKI FEEL LIKE?

Reiki is a highly individualized experience, and no two sessions are exactly alike. Some people fall into a deep, meditative state resembling sleep. Others experience:

  • Waves of physical warmth or a cooling sensation from the practitioner’s hands

  • Mild, pleasant tingling sensations moving through the body

  • Visualizing colors, memories, or creative insights

  • An emotional release, such as a deep sigh or tears, as old energy clears away

  • A profound, heavy state of physical relaxation

There is no "right" way to feel. Even if you simply feel like you took a very deep, quiet nap, the energetic shifts are still actively taking place.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I have to take off my clothes?
No. Unlike massage therapy, Reiki is performed with the client fully clothed. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment.

Does Reiki conflict with my medical treatments or religion?
Not at all. Reiki is completely independent of any religious belief system and is guided purely by your own body's energetic needs. It is a complementary therapy that works beautifully alongside traditional Western medicine and mental health care.

How will I feel afterward?
Most clients leave feeling lighter, centered, and deeply relaxed. Over the following 24 to 48 hours, you may notice increased mental clarity, better sleep, or a gentle emotion
